Our History
Caledonian's Growth
Caledonian was formed in 1970 by the late Mr. William S. Walker OBE.
Mr. Walker was born in Barbados and educated at Cambridge University in England. He emigrated to Canada in the late 1950s and moved to Jamaica in the early 1960s. Mr. Walker visited the Cayman Islands on several occasions before deciding to move permanently to Cayman in 1964. He formed the first law firm on the island and a few years later established Caledonian.
Mr. Walker was instrumental in contributing to the drafting of much of the early financial services legislation that became a pillar of the island’s growth and development.
Caledonian has grown lock-step with the Cayman Islands as it has grown as a financial centre. In 1988, Caledonian obtained a Class “A” Bank licensees and is one of only 20 such banks in the Cayman Islands.
In 1992, the company obtained a Mutual Funds Administrators Licensee as the hedge fund industry was blossoming and Caledonian has been administering hedge funds since these early days.
In 1995, Caledonian was one of the first firms in the Cayman Islands to establish an overseas office choosing to locate a trust, company management and fund administration firm in the Isle of Man. Over the years, our presence in the Isle of Man has grown and we are one of the largest service providers on the island.
In 2003, Caledonian ventured in the United States with the opening of a representative office in New York. This was followed quickly by a presence in the BVI and an institutional quality back office in Orlando Fl to support Caledonian’s fund administration business.
In 2010 Caledonian celebrated a milestone with its 40th Anniversary.
In 2011 the Caledonian was acquired by New World Holdings Inc. a privately held investment company in the Cayman Islands. Through the acquisition Caledonian and all subsidiaries operate under the new company name Caledonian Global Financial Services and has formed one of the largest specialised financial services providers in our operational jurisdictions.
