National Coach Week 2025

12th – 18th May is National Coach Week, and here at Caledonian Travel we’re proud that the beauty and convenience of coach travel is being recognised.

Did you know that about 3,000 coaches enter or leave Central London daily between 7am and 7pm? And in 2023, buses and coaches travelled 1.9 billion miles throughout the UK?

And for us, with a fleet of 95 modern coaches, we have thousands of customers going up and down the country and beyond every day, trusting us to get them from one place to their holiday destination with the promise of comfort, beautiful scenery, and the ability to switch off and enjoy their journey.

One day our coaches could be in Blackpool....the next they're in Torquay!

The appeal of coach travel

We also know how much the customers on board make the ride enjoyable. Friendships are made (you can see the proof of that in our fan group), and holidays begin the moment you board. But the people at the wheel have a massive part to play in making coach travel so appealing – and we believe it’s a great time to salute and say thank you to our fantastic driver base who make Caledonian coach breaks possible.

One of our seasoned coach drivers is Walter Rowat. He’s been at the wheel for almost 30 years, and he loves everything that coach travel has to offer.

“It’s the great variety of destinations and passengers that keeps things fresh for me,” he said. “It’s a very rewarding career as I’ve always been interested in travel and history, so it’s a perfect combo in one job.”

“Sincere pride”

Paul Donnachie is another driver who’s very proud to be out there on the road. But he sees their role as more than just being a driver. He said:

“Caledonian drivers are managing regular tours on a weekly basis, all across the UK and Europe on a daily routine. We truly understand what makes any holiday more memorable, through previous passenger experiences. We take sincere pride in the smiles on passengers’ faces, following an opportunity to embark on a memorable additional trip and experience during their holiday!”
