Callander: Where Your Highland Adventure Begins

Callander feels like your first deep breath of Highland air. The River Teith winds through the town, with Ben Ledi gently in the background, and the streets have that warm welcoming feeling about them.

It’s a lovely base for exploring the Trossachs, and many of our breaks include visits to charming spots such as Oban, Pitlochry or Scone Palace. After a day out, you can look forward to returning to the Caledonian Thistle Hotel, part of our own Caledonian Hotel Collection, with its welcoming atmosphere and relaxed Highland comfort.

Where the Mountains Meet the Loch, Arrochar

A peaceful village surrounded by some of Scotland’s most eye-catching landscapes, Arrochar is a must-see for anyone considering a holiday in Scotland. Loch Long stretches out in front of you, while the shapes of Ben Lomond and The Cobbler can be seen from above.

Things to do in Arrochar? This is the sort of place where even a gentle stroll gives you plenty to look at. Many itineraries include time in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park too, which is only a short journey away.

And after a day out taking in the views, you can return to the Caledonian Claymore Hotel, Its lochside views, cosy spaces and friendly team make it a lovely place to unwind – and yes, local kippers and fish suppers are often on this Arrochar hotel menu! Of course, if the weather isn't pleasant, the Claymore is famously one of those Scottish hotels with entertainment, every night meaning you'll never be bored.

The Scottish Capital: Edinburgh

A Scottish holiday just doesn’t feels complete without time in Edinburgh. The capital is a beautiful mix of Georgian avenues, Medieval closes, history, culture, and the sky framed the Castle.

If you are there for the first time, the Royal Mile is a great introduction. Our excursions give you the freedom to explore at your own pace, walk into a museum that catches your eye or simply enjoy the atmosphere without worrying about parking or planning.

Highland Peace, Strathpeffer

Tucked into the Highlands, Strathpeffer feels like stepping into a Victorian postcard. Its elegant buildings, peaceful square and surrounding hills make it a charming place to unwind.

In summer, you’ll often hear the District Pipe Band filling the village with music, and the Strathpeffer Pavilion hosts a range of events for those after an extra evening activity. It’s small, friendly and full of character – exactly the kind of place people love discovering.

Dunoon, Highlands by the Water

For a gentle break beside the water, Dunoon is a lovely choice. Sitting by the Holy Loch, the town has an easy seaside rhythm, with views that change throughout the day.

When in season, many holidays include the ferry crossing to Gourock. It's a short journey, but it always feels like a nice change of scene. Dunoon works well for anyone wanting a quieter base with plenty to see close by.

Glasgow: Modern City with a Big Heart

Glasgow is often described as Scotland’s friendliest city, and it does not take long to see why. It has brilliant museums, lively arts, great food and some of the best shopping in the UK.

Many of our breaks include time here, whether as a full day out or as part of a wider itinerary. Even a short visit gives you a real feel for the city’s personality.

Thinking About Exploring Scotland?

What is the prettiest coastal town in Scotland?
There are plenty of contenders, but Oban is a firm favourite thanks to its harbour views and island backdrop.

What is the most beautiful city in Scotland?
Edinburgh is often considered the most beautiful, with its castle, Georgian streets and dramatic skyline. But Glasgow – and even Aberdeen with its silver granite – each have their own charm.

What should I not miss in Scotland?
Edinburgh’s Castle and Royal Mile, Oban’s harbour, the peaceful shores of Loch Long at Arrochar, Glasgow’s culture and Callander’s gateway-to-the-Highlands feel all make wonderful highlights.

Whether you’re drawn to the Highlands, the cities, the lochs or the coast, our coach holidays make it easy to sit back, relax and enjoy Scotland at your own pace. All you need to do is choose where you fancy going next – and we’ll take care of the rest.
