Top Tips for Summer 2026

It’s been warm here recently. The UK heatwaves of 2026 have been particularly challenging, as it’s hard to rest, sleep and focus. We’re simply not used to this type of heat! Whether you’ve got your holiday booked with us for summer or not, here are some top tips to stay safe in this heatwave and beyond in the warmer months in general.

Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

It’s really important to stay hydrated with water – not just when you’re thirsty. While there are many factors that can contribute to heat exhaustion and heatstroke, drinking plenty of water helps your body stay cool and replace the fluids you lose throughout the day. Rather than waiting until you're thirsty, try to take regular sips whenever you get the chance. Keeping a bottle of water close by is a simple way to stay refreshed wherever your adventures take you.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with enjoying a morning coffee, a pint in the sunshine, or a glass of wine with dinner – after all, you're on holiday! A few extra glasses of water each day can make all the difference, helping you stay cool, comfortable, and full of energy so you can make the most of every moment of your break.

Apply Your Suncream

If you’re going to be out in direct sunlight and making the most of the warm weather, it’s important to apply suncream before you head out. Be sure to take your suncream with you during the day and remember to reapply it regularly, particularly if you've been swimming, perspiring, or spending several hours outdoors. Giving your skin the best possible protection can help prevent painful sunburn and allow you to enjoy your holiday in comfort.

After all, the best souvenirs from a day at the seaside are a stick of rock, a seashell, or maybe a postcard—not sunburn!

Pack for All the Seasons

Remember that if you’re going on holiday with us to a UK destination, we’re at the mercy of the British weather! It might be summer, but you might still feel a bit cold at some point. You might not need your woolly hat in July or August, but your light rainproof jacket should probably get packed into your bag. After all, you can never be too well prepared. Go on then, take your scarf as well – just in case.

If the weather forecast shows it’s going to be warmer than usual, it might be a good idea to pack some looser-fitting clothes so you’ll stay comfortable in the hot conditions. Oh, and of course, don’t forget your hat and sunglasses too!

Keep Your Room Cool

Nobody likes coming back to a hot and stuffy hotel room after a day of exploring. One handy little trick that Caly taught us is to close your curtains or blinds before you head out for the day. By blocking the sunlight from streaming through the windows, you can help keep your room much cooler while you're away.

Yes, it might be a little darker when you return, but it will usually feel much more comfortable too. A cooler room is the perfect place to put your feet up, freshen up, and relax before heading out again or settling in for the evening. Sometimes, it's the simplest tips that make all the difference when you're on holiday!

Eat Some Ice Cream!

You might be thinking, well, that’s good advice all the time – ice cream is always a good idea!

While it can’t substitute for applying sun cream, seeking shade, or staying hydrated, enjoying an ice cream can certainly help you feel a little cooler during a heatwave or on a particularly hot summer’s day. There's something refreshing about taking a break from the sunshine with a cold, sweet treat in hand.

Whether it’s enjoyed while strolling along the beach, exploring your favourite seaside town, or simply straight from the freezer at home, you deserve to treat yourself with something to cool you down. After all, summer and ice cream go hand in hand! So, which is your favourite? A classic 99 topped with a Flake, a nostalgic Screwball, or a refreshing Rocket lolly? Whatever your go-to choice, taking a few minutes to cool down with your favourite frozen treat is one of the simple pleasures of summer.

Summer is there to be enjoyed, and a few simple precautions can help you stay comfortable, safe and ready to make the most of the sunny days ahead.
