2023 Formula 1 Calendar & Fascinating F1 Facts

It's that time again for all you Formula 1 fans, with the 2023 season kicking off in Bahrain on 5th March 2023.

This race saw Max Verstappen take first place, starting this season as he ended the last one with his win at Abu Dhabi.

Bahrain
Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2023

To make it grippy, the track surface at Bahrain International Circuit is made from a special aggregate which is shipped all the way from England.

And with regular sandstorms happening in the area, a sticky adhesive is sprayed onto the surrounding desert before the race, to help keep sand off the circuit.

Formula 1 STC Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2023

Plans for the South Arabian Grand Prix began in 2019 with the first event held in 2021.

It's the fastest street circuit that the sport has visited and was the 75th venue to join the Formula 1 calendar.

Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2023

It takes a staggering 290,000 staff hours to assemble the circuit each year.

The Australian Grand Prix has been held in Melbourne since 1996, before which it was held in Adelaide from 1985 to 1995.

Following the success of last year's first Miami Grand Prix, grandstands have been extended for the 2023 event, which takes the capacity up to 56,000.

The first Miami Grand Prix resulted in a boost of $350 million to the local economy.

Back in 1971, the closest ever Formula 1 finish was recorded at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

The race was won by British racing driver, Peter Gethin, winning by just 0.01s.

The Monaco Grand Prix is often described as one of the most prestigious in the Formula 1 calendar.

The twisty layout presents challenges to F1 drivers and this Grand Prix holds the record for the least number of cars to finish a race. In 1966 and 1996, only 4 cars completed the race.

Formula 1 Aws Gran Premio De España 2023

Max Verstappen became the youngest winner in Formula 1 history when he won the 2016 Grand Prix, at the age of 18.

The Spanish Grand Prix has been held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catulnya since 1991.

Formula 1 Pirelli Grand Prix Du Canada 2023

The circuit layout for the Canadian Grand Prix is challenging, but is also a favourite amongst many drivers. It's 2.709 miles in length and includes 14 corners.

Furry groundhogs can often be seen scurrying across the circuit, sometimes causing a little mischief!

Formula 1 Grosser Preis Von Österreich 2023

After an 11-year hiatus, the Austrian Grand Prix made it back onto the Formula 1 calendar in 2014.

It’s held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, in the Styrian region of Austria, and is one of the most picturesque of race tracks.

The first Hungarian Grand Prix took place in 1986 and is a popular destination for Formula 1 fans from all across Europe to this day.

Lewis Hamilton has won the race more than any other driver, with a current tally of eight.

The Dutch Grand Prix is held at Zandvoort, a seaside circuit located west of Amsterdam.

First opening in 1948, the track swoops through the sand dunes and has a rollercoaster feel to it.

The track for the Italian Grand Prix is the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which was built over a period of 110 days back in 1922.

The parkland location of Monza is near Milan, in a picturesque leafy setting.

The first Singapore Grand Prix took place in 2008 at the Marina Bay Circuit.

It’s a street track with an impressive backdrop of the city’s famous skyline. The trackside atmosphere at Marina Bay is absolutely electric.

The Suzuka circuit for the Japanese Grand Prix is the only one to be in a figure of eight format.

This will be the 2nd time that the Qatar Grand Prix has taken place, with the first event happening in November 2021 at the Losail International Circuit.

Over 500km of wiring is needed to keep the circuit illuminated at night.

The United States Grand Prix was established in the early 1900s, around about the same time as the Indianapolis 500.
